MassDOT holds first developers conference

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation hosted its first developers conference on Saturday. State officials announced the winners of a competition to develop applications for the recently released Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority route and schedule data. MassTransit, the winning iPhone app from Sparkfish Creative, shows users the scheduled arrival times for the next bus, train, or ferry and lets them locate the nearest stop. Second-place winner OpenMBTA is an open source application that also offers scheduled arrival times. Conference organizers also announced a year-long trial to make real-time data for five MBTA bus routes available to developers. Link to full story in The Boston Globe.
