Gaileo project takes shape

Galileo, the European satellite navigation system, is moving forward. After many delays and controversies, engineers in the UK are assembling components for the first four satellites.  Galileo is expected to complement existing GPS systems and improve on their accuracy, according to BBC News:

Users should get quicker, more reliable fixes and be able to locate their positions with an error of one metre compared with the current GPS-only error of several metres.

The first satellites are scheduled for launch in late 2010 and early 2011; eventually the system will include 30 satellites.  Link to full story in BBC News.
