Agencies struggle with equipment woes

by Susan on November 9, 2009

The Washington Post writes about two equipment malfunctions last week — one transit and one traffic — and the challenges for public agencies. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority lost many of its customer-related communications services when a power unit overheated, while the computer that controls the synchronized traffic signals in Montgomery County (MD) failed. The Post writes: “The coincidence of twin mini-disasters for commuters last week might foreshadow scores of problems as cash-strapped governments stagger into the 21st century burdened by creaking 20th-century technology.” Link to full story in The Washington Post.
