The Washington Post writes about two equipment malfunctions last week — one transit and one traffic — and the challenges for public agencies. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority lost many of its customer-related communications services when a power unit overheated, while the computer that controls the synchronized traffic signals in Montgomery County (MD) failed.
