Metro can’t rule out another power failure

by Susan on November 6, 2009

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority has restored power after Wednesday’s system failure that knocked out many of the agency’s customer-related communications. An overheated power distribution unit affected NextBus, e-Alerts, public address systems in the rail stations,  bus and paratransit vehicle communications, and various online transactions.  The Washington Post reports that the interim back-up system relies on the same aging equipment as the component that failed and quotes Metro’s chief information officer Suzanne Peck saying that the agency could not rule out another failure.
