As the battle for high-speed rail in Las Vegas continues, three futuristic options were presented at a forum sponsored last week by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Transportation Research Center. SolaTrek would carry autos on solar-powered maglev trains operating on elevated guideways. TubularRail would send trains through a series of elevated O-rings, and the Sunlight Bullet Expressway proposes a national network of electrified trains that also incorporates high-tension transmission lines to provide a back-up power source for cities.
