Hybrid cars may add fake vroom for safety

As safety experts worry that hybrids and electric cars may be too quiet, some manufacturers have sought out Hollywood sound-effects expertise. According to The New York Times, Nissan is consulting with the film industry for its new plug-in Leaf, and the Fisker Karma hybrid will sound like  “a cross between a starship and a Formula One car.” Speaking for Toyota, John Hanson said,  “I don’t know of any injuries related to this, but it is a concern. We are moving rapidly toward broader use of electrification in vehicles, and it’s a fact that these cars are very quiet and could pose a risk to unsighted people.” Link to full story in The New York Times.
