Parking structures now play a key role in attracting transit users — especially in the suburbs — and they are going green in the process. New garages incorporate a variety of eco-friendly features, including solar panels, pay-on-foot kiosks, electronic signs that direct drivers to vacant spaces, and motion detectors that trigger wireless lighting systems. “There is this whole dynamic and irony at play here,” says Gloria Ohland, vice president for communications at Reconnecting America. “Unless there are parking spaces, you’re not going to get people to use transit.” Link to full story in USA Today.
