New software to help BART improve maintenance

San Francisco (CA) Bay Area Rapid Transit will introduce new software for  managing its maintenance activities. The Maximo software from IBM, expected to cost between $1.5 million and $1.7 million, will allow BART to know the location and condition of its assets 24/7.  “We have an aging fleet of rail cars, and we run them longer and more frequently than almost any transit agency in the country,” said BART spokesman Jim Allison. “The people in our maintenance yards do a great job, but this is going to improve on that even more. The software will let us more efficiently maintain the cars.” Link to full story in San Mateo County Times.
