SEPTA moves toward smart cards

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority closed the bidding on a smart card system yesterday and hopes to award a contract next spring. The agency has declined to identify the bidders, but according to The Philadelphia Inquirer, they include Affiliated Computer Services Inc. of Dallas and Cubic Corp. of San Diego.  SEPTA has applied for federal stimulus funding to pay for the new system, which is expected to cost about $100 million.  Link to full story in The Philadelphia Inquirer.
