TAP system faces roadblocks

The Transit Access Pass system, envisioned as a seamless fare system for the multiple transit agencies in Los Angeles County (CA), is behind schedule and over budget. According to the Los Angeles Times, an audit prepared for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority determined that the TAP project “lacks oversight, is understaffed by the MTA and has no plan detailing when the project will be finished or how much it will cost.”  Metro has equipped its buses and rail stations with TAP card readers, but only six of the region’s 16 other transit agencies have joined the program to date.
