Citing concerns about “errant signals,” the National Transportation Safety Board issued an urgent warning to transit agencies to check their train control systems. While the investigation to last June’s Metrorail crash is still in progress, NTSB chairwoman Deborah A. P. Hersman said, “Our findings so far indicate a pressing need to issue these recommendations to immediately address safety glitches we have found that could lead to another tragic accident.” Agencies with similar controls include those in Boston (MA), Atlanta (GA), Philadelphia (PA), San Francisco (CA), and Baltimore (MD).
