U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood announced the recipients of $100 million in TIGGER grants supporting use of cutting-edge environmental technologies. The 43 projects include:
- AC Transit (CA) — Install photovoltaic capacity to generate “green” hydrogen
- Link Transit (WA) – Introduce battery-powered vehicles on community circulator routes
- Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority — Design and construct wind turbines to generate electricity
- Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (GA) — Provide shade structures with integrated photovoltaic cells at bus storage and maintenance facility
“This shows how investing in green transportation not only helps the planet, but creates jobs and strengthens our economy,” said LaHood. The Transit Investments for Greenhouse Gas and Energy Reduction grant program is funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Link to full list of grant recipients.
