Santa Monica’s Big Blue Bus (CA) is about to open its new maintenance facility, which features sustainable design and state-of-the-art transit maintenance technology. Sustainable features in the 66,000-square-foot facility include photovoltaic panels on the roof, highly reflective concrete paving, recycled content in construction materials, and use of reclaimed water for landscape irrigation. The facility also includes a 200-foot long programmable glass art wall that changes colors and patterns. “While the old facility has served us well for over 40 years, we live in a different world now and need a facility that can maintain our larger and more technologically diverse fleet, which includes many different types and sizes of cleaner burning alternative fueled vehicles,” said director of transit services Stephanie Negriff. The ribbon-cutting is schedule for September 23. Link to full story in Mass Transit Magazine.
