West Virginia PRT system back in service

by Susan on September 1, 2009

The personal rapid transit system at West Virginia University is back in operation after a three-month break for diagnostics and system repair. Upgrades to the system, which was introduced in 1975, include variable display signs at each station and closed-circuit televisions on each platform. WVU is also introducing a series of transportation programs for the 2009-2010 academic year, including the WE Car car-sharing program and online carpool matching.  “With these new programs and the PRT and Mountain Line services, we hope to see a decrease in parking demand and less congestion in and around the Morgantown area,” said Hugh Kierig, director of transportation and parking.
