Zipcar has gone mainstream. Started almost 10 years ago in Cambridge (MA), the car-sharing service has 325,000 members and is about to turn a profit. Some 8,500 businesses and 120 colleges have signed up for the service, and the company is marketing its technology to public agencies for managing their vehicle fleets. Now other players in the car-rental business — including Hertz, U-Haul, and Enterprise — want a piece of the car-sharing market. Link to full story in Fortune.
