New app lets Pittsburgh citizens complain by cell phone

The City of Pittsburgh (PA) unveiled iBurgh, a free iPhone application tied in with the city’s 311 system. Citizens can take a photo of a nuisance — such as a pothole — and send it to the city. The application embeds the picture with GPS data so that the city can locate the the problem. “Right now we stand at a very interesting era where democracy can be transformed through technology,” said city councilor William Peduto. “Pittsburgh has an incredible opportunity to lead this new e-democracy.” Link to full story in Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
