UK considering national smart ticketing system.

The UK Department for Transport has issued a consultation seeking feedback on developing a national strategy for integrated and smart ticketing.  According to Cellular-News, the government hopes to build on the success of Transport for London‘s popular Oyster smart cards, which are used for 78% of bus and subway trips. The government estimates that an integrated smart card system could save up to £2 billion per year from faster travel times and a streamlined ticketing process.
