The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (DC) will run all its Metrorail trains manually as a safety precaution. The Washington Post writes: “The idea behind staying on manual is that the system can rely on operators, who are more engaged in driving, to exercise their judgment if something goes wrong.” The downsides to manual operation, the story notes, include “jerkier rides and longer waits.” Link to full story in The Washington Post.
