Located in a nondescript building in Pomona (CA), dispatchers in Metrolink‘s Operations Center monitor about 300 trains a day. Metrolink is remodeling the center now, but has plans to build an updated center nearby to accommodate the technology for the agency’s new positive train control system. Scheduled for deployment 2012, the system will use GPS to detect “irregularities” in the system, according to spokesman Francisco Oaxaca. Link to full story in Los Angeles Daily News.
