MBTA democratizes its data

Just a few weeks after joining up with Google Transit, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority will release its schedule and geographic data to developers.  In an email to The Boston Globe, Colin Durrant, deputy secretary for communications and policy for the state department of transportation, characterized the process as “democratizing the data,” and wrote: “We’re allowing people to create tools that T riders and residents will find helpful.” Information will be available for the MBTA’s bus, rail, and ferry routes, as well as several of the Commonwealth’s regional transit authorities.  Link to developer’s page.
