Indian Railways to introduce smart ticketing

Indian Railways is introducing contactless smart cards, which will be distributed through automatic ticket vending machines in five cities —  New Delhi, Secunderabad, Kolkata, Bhubaneswar and Pune. Project launch is scheduled for September in New Delhi and Secunderabad. NXP Semiconductors will provide the smart cards.  Said Ashok Chandak, Senior Director, Global Sales and Marketing for India, NXP, “We see a significant growth in the use of contactless smart card technology in transport systems in India.” Link to full story in SiliconIndia.
