Editorial: Better technology can boost transit

by Susan on August 14, 2009

In an editorial, The Honolulu Advertiser writes about efforts by Oahu Transit Services (HI) to introduce technology to its bus system:

As O’ahu’s roads grow more crowded, it’s smart public policy to expand the use of the latest information technology to keep commuters informed about traffic conditions. For drivers, the city’s traffic camera feeds, ubiquitous on city and news Web sites and on television, give them easily accessible real-time information. Bus riders deserve the same, especially with ridership up by 11 percent this year.

OTS introduced real-time arrival estimates for almost every bus stop in the agency’s 531-vehicle fleet. Link to full story in The Honolulu Advertiser.
