Paris moves forward with electric car-sharing scheme

Mayor Bertrand Delanoë plans to introduce a fleet of 2,000 electric cars that customers can pick up and drop off at recharging stations throughout Paris. Another 2,000 cars would be available in surrounding communities. Based on the French capital’s bicycle-rental program, so-called Autolib could “revolutionize transport,” according to the mayor. Drivers would be able to pick up a two- or four-seat car at a rental stand by swiping a credit card; they can drop the car off at any rental location when they’re done. The rental rates have not been set yet, but are likely to be $6-$9 per half hour. Link to full story in ABC News.
