Government Computer News compiled its 2009 list of 10 exemplary government websites that “embrace the Web’s full potential.” Among the top ten was Transit511, which provides schedules, maps, and online trip planning for the multiple transit agencies serving the San Francisco (CA) Bay Area. The Metropolitan Transportation Commission oversees the website, which provides one-stop shopping for the region’s transit riders. GCN praised the efforts of MTC’s development team to consolidate information from numerous agencies into a single site: “We did not dictate to them a particular format for the data,” said project manager Tom Spiekerman. “We figured a lot of them did not have the budget or the expertise, so we worked with whatever they had and created a centralized database.” Link to full story in Government Computer News.
