The University of South Florida has partnered with Enterprise Rent-A-Car to offer car-sharing services on its Tampa campus. The WeCar program allows students and employees to rent cars on an hourly basis; four hybrid cars are located in designated parking spaces on campus. USF’s Center for Urban Transportation Research will study the impacts of the program on travel behavior. The 18-month research project is funded with state and federal grants. “Our hypothesis is that participants in the car-sharing program will modify their travel behavior based on a dynamic pricing structure and increase use of transit, USF’s BullRunner shuttle, carpooling, biking and walking,” said Phil Winters, CUTR’s transportation demand management program manager.
