Pittsburgh tests smart cards

The Port Authority of Allegheny County (PA) is testing smart-card technology on 10 buses. Selected employees will test the fareboxes on their daily commutes to help the Port Authority identify any glitches before the system is rolled out this fall. According to spokesman Jim Ritchie, other area transit organizations have shown interest in implementing a smart-card program, which would facilitate transfers between systems.  Link to full story in Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
