UK commuters could use phone to pay for travel

UK Transport Secretary Lord Adonis is looking into options for expanding use of smart-card technology to pay for transit trips.  “By extending the use of smart ticketing technology, we can transform people’s perception and experience of public transport,” Lord Adonis said. He observed that Japanese commuters use their cell phones to pay for rail trips, while Hong Kong travelers use the Octopus smart card to pay for transit and other goods and services.  Link to full story in The Telegraph.
