Metra, which provides commuter rail service in the Chicago (IL) area, will sell monthly passes and 10-ride tickets online, starting in September. That’s a few months earlier than the previously announced timetable for accepting credit and debit cards for fare payment. Passengers will be able to use credit cards to purchase tickets at stations in February 2010. The changeover is expected to cost Metra about $2.2 million in startup expenses and $3-5 million in annual processing fees. Link to full story in Chicago Tribune.
