Laval commuters to receive GPS bus updates

by Susan on May 29, 2009

Commuters in Laval will become the first in Quebec to know when their buses will arrive. The Société de transport de Laval is installing NextBus technology at the system’s 2,500 bus stops.  Arrival updates will be available on the Internet, mobile devices, and cell phones via text messaging; electronic displays will be installed about about 100 bus stops.  “It helps people plan their days, reduces waiting times and ensures they get to their destination on time,” said STL spokeswoman Marie-Céline Bourgault.  STL will launch a pilot this summer and expects to have most of the system covered by the end of the year.  Link to full story in The Gazette.
