RTA considers cell-phone payment technology

The Regional Transportation Authority (IL) is considering a cell-phone fare payment system for the Chicago Transit Authority, Metra, and Pace.  Cell phones with a near-field communication chip would automatically deduct the transit fare from the rider’s account.  “I think it’s one of the most promising technologies out there,” said the RTA’s Joseph Moriarty. “More people carry a cell phone than carry credit or debit cards.”  Link to full story in Chicago Tribune.
