Chicago RTA to apply for funds to improve battery technology

The Chicago (IL) Regional Transportation Authority plans to apply for up to $3 million in federal dollars for advanced battery technology through the federal TIGER grant program — Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery.  The advanced batteries will last up to three years; the batteries currently in use have to be recharged every three months.  RTA plans to install the new batteries in 1,200 Chicago Transit Authority and 300 Pace buses.  Link to full story in Chicago Sun-Times.
