General Electric announced plans to locate a facility in upstate New York to manufacture sodium-metal chloride batteries suitable for hybrid locomotives and other heavy industrial applications. GE has yet to pick a site for the factory, which will employ about 350 workers, but expects to break ground this year and start production in 2011. The company plans to apply for economic stimulus funds, but will build the facility regardless of federal funding availability. Link to full story in CNET News.
