BART dials in to phone-pay system

James Fang, Director of San Francisco (CA) Bay Area Rapid Transit, envisions a day when his customers use their cell phones to pay for a BART ride. “You’d no longer have to buy a ticket,” said Fang, who also noted that a cell-phone payment system would reduce ticket costs and farebox maintenance.  The agency tested NFC technology last year in a four-month pilot involving 230 passengers.
