The City of Danville (IL) is developing an inventory of its streets and infrastructure, including bus stops, sidewalks, sewers, street lamps, and regulatory signs. The goal is to have a comprehensive GIS database to support planning activities. For example, comparing sidewalk data with bus stop locations could identify access problems. ”It’s difficult to get to a bus stop if there’s no sidewalk,” said GIS manager Adam Aull. “So, we’ll start analyzing all this data, and then we can start developing an appropriate plan.” The GIS project began about six years ago and already supports the zoning, inspection, and police departments.
