Expo offers glimpse of future of transportation

Personal rapid transit could come to Mountain View (CA). Discussions are underway about installing a PRT system when the NASA Ames Research Park is redeveloped as a research hub for universities and private companies.  Christopher Perkins, CEO of Unimodal, Inc., which has built prototypes of a SkyTrain PRT at the research park, described the benefits of the technology at an “Exploration Expo” held at the NASA facility. One PRT line would support as much traffic as a three-lane highway, Perkins said, and the maglev vehicles would get the equivalent of 500 miles per gallon. Link to full story in Mountain View Voice.
