How the New York City subway system uses social media

by Susan on April 3, 2009

In Marketing.fm, Eric Friedman interviews Diane Chehab, marketing manager  from New York City Transit about the agency’s use of the Internet and social media.  NYC Transit started podcasting in 2006, began to use Flickr in 2008, and now has four accounts on Twitter. What has Chehab (aka MetroCardDiane) learned about subway riders from Twitter?

One thing we learned is that the word MetroCard is very frequently used, as it is ubiquitous in NYC residents’ purses, wallets and pockets! It is more personal than money and very much a part of daily life for New Yorkers.

Next steps for the agency include starting blogs for each of the city’s subway lines and making more use of RSS feeds. Link to full story in Marketing.fm.
