Pierce Transit rolls out talking buses

Pierce Transit (WA) introduced a new $35 million radio and communications system, complete with onboard announcements recorded by a Seattle radio personality.  According to information technology project manager Ron Moyer, ““The original purpose behind this project was to replace an aging radio system. We had all vehicles out on the road and 50 to 60 percent of the time we couldn’t talk to them or they couldn’t understand what you were saying.” Now, an onboard computer lets the buses communicate with controllers, improving operations and safety.  Link to full story in The News Tribune.
