Victorian railway modernizes communications

The Department of Transport in Victoria, Australia, will upgrade the analog communication system on its urban rail network. The department has awarded a turnkey contract to a  consortium of Nokia Siemens Networks and Siemens Mobility to convert to a digital system using the GSM-R standard. The system will allow voice and data communications between train crews and ground-based  staff during routine operations and emergencies, improving overall safety and security. Link to full story on TMCnet.
