Snow snarls bus routes; commuters delayed

After Thursday’s snow caused bus delays throughout the Seattle (WA) area, a local official urged Metro to upgrade its customer communications.  King County Councilman Dow Constantine issued a statement that read, in part, “I encourage Metro to take immediate action to use instant messaging, Twitter, neighborhood blogs, and customer self-reporting systems to keep Metro operators and riders connected.”  According to The Seattle Times, Metro uses transmitters on signposts to monitor bus location, but the system cannot track detours or buses that are very late in traffic. Metro deputy manager Jim Jacobson said that the agency is procuring a GPS system. Link to full story in The Seattle Times.
