Starting Friday, the San Francisco Municipal Railway will reactivate the audible warning system that beeps every time a bus turns right.
The devices were disabled years ago after residents complained that the beeping disturbed their sleep and overall peace of mind. For a time, Muni tried muting the beeps with duct tape, but even that didn’t appease neighbors.
Despite the complaints, Muni believes that restoring the beeps will improve safety. Based on a review of bus-related injuries and fatalities, Muni has determined that the audible warning will help prevent bus-pedestrian accidents in the future. Link to full story in San Francisco Chronicle.
