Montreal (QC) graphic designer Mélissa Nougier has challenged her fellow artists to redesign the Société de transport de Montréal’s rechargeable Opus transit pass. “When the STM unveiled a new smart card for transit users, I dressed mine up and invited others to do the same,” Nougier said.
While it’s fun to get creative with the little rectangle of plastic, there’s little chance the look of the Opus card will be changed soon. ”Not now, but who knows in the future?” said STM spokesperson Marianne Rouette. “The design of the card had to follow strict criteria: It had to be visually recognizable with the system of card readers, and the contrast of the orange and blue was found to be easy to read for the visually impaired,” Rouette said.
Since launching the Opus Lift project in January, Nougier has received more than 40 designs; they are posted on her blog. Link to full story in The Gazette.
